Tax Evasion | Concealment of Income

A particular feature of the Benelux countries for investigations lies in their partial status as tax havens. Until the beginning of 2015, tax evaders benefited from the advantages of the Benelux countries—primarily in Luxembourg and the Netherlands, large corporations were given the opportunity to establish subsidiaries and use them to tax a large portion of the revenue generated in Germany at low rates. While Luxembourg’s banking secrecy protected the strategies of major corporations until then, Belgium had already put a stop to this practice a year earlier. Currently, only the Netherlands still offers conditions similar to a tax haven.

Research by the EU showed that Dutch subsidiaries of US corporations alone generated profits of 127 billion dollars in 2010—significantly more than the 55 billion in Luxembourg. Many German companies have also used this tax loophole to understate their revenues. In some cases, these major entrepreneurs are also private individuals with maintenance obligations who, through their behavior, not only deprive society of tax revenue but also disadvantage those entitled to maintenance, thereby coming into the focus of our private detectives for the Benelux countries.
